PERC pass the test of eligibility math

The contest of a school teacher (PERC) has two written tests of eligibility, in French and mathematics. The goal is to verify that you have sufficient knowledge in both subjects, but also you have the ability to transmit. The math test is to assess the knowledge of subject knowledge required for teaching, but also the ability to step back compared to different concepts, conduct an argument, and to share it clearly and rigorous.

In terms of the assessed level, it is set at a level of end of college, since the concepts covered in primary school are the foundation of a larger body which will then be developed in the secondary.

It has three distinct parts:

1. A problem on one or more areas of the school or college programs, or on elements of core knowledge, skills and culture. This problem can about a given topic, use several registers: digital, algebraic, geometric, graphic, etc. (13 points)

2. Independent of exercises to test the knowledge and skills of the candidate in different areas of the school or college programs. These exercises may be proposed in the form of multiple choice questions, questions to answer or built many types of errors in analysis of student work, formulating hypotheses about their origins. (13 points)

3. An analysis of a file consisting of one or more teaching aids mathematics, chosen in the programs of primary school, whether for students or teachers to (textbooks, type documents teaching), and productions of students of all types, to assess the candidate’s ability to master the concepts present in educational situations. (14 points)

Not included in the scale of 40 points, up 5 points can be removed to accommodate the syntactic correctness and print quality of production, understood to mean writing complete sentences and spelled satisfactorily. A comprehensive final mark below 10 is eliminatory.

Part one: the problem

It allows the candidate to demonstrate its ability to link different registers mathematics, ie digital records, algebraic, geometric, graphic, etc. It must also allow him to show he has a good representation of different statutes encountered in mathematics statements: data, assumptions, properties or theorems.

This problem can have multiple parts; may be asked the candidate to demonstrate the known properties, to model a situation in order to solve a practical exercise or to create a more general reasoning.

Tips for writing a demonstration

It follows a standard presentation rule that is based on the "link deductive" and whose frame is always:

1) we know (or "assumed" or "from the data" ): the useful and relevant information in the text are cited here;

3) therefore (or "it follows that" or "therefore" ): the expected conclusion is then shown accurately to what is asked in the question of the exercise.

Part II: exercises

This part is so heterogeneous in form and substance. The variety of exercises makes it possible the jury to assess different skills from the candidate: knowledge, know-how more practical and professional, but also the relationship between theoretical and practical knowledge.

So you can find:

MCQ, sometimes accompanied by a request for justification;

Questions or open constructed response, asking for their resolution, justification of reasoning used

analyzing issues of error. Then you have to follow a specific pattern of response explaining how education (cycle or class) can this year have been given, then do the analysis of student work (description of mistakes, assumptions the origin of these errors) and possibly offer your remediation solutions.

Third part: the analysis of a file

The file analysis represents the part of the height scale and the most consistent in terms of information to absorb and process. But located at the end of trial and very different from the others, she does not always get sufficient time for treatment. Thus, it would be wise to devote about 1:30, a half hour to the close reading of different types of proposed documents and content, and then about an hour to answer the questions.

Unlike the first two parts, focusing on discipline, this final part of the test has a high "professional" dimension. One seeks to check out the skills of didactic and pedagogical. Also the expected answers are not within the "exact science." Time management

The processing order of the questions presented on the copy is completely irrelevant, the three parties are very different in form and the required skills. So everything is a matter of personal organization and training.

Prepare for each event

For the first two parts, is the knowledge of the program, vocabulary and mastery of mathematical concepts is expected.
