The number of students is increasing. In 2023, they will be 2.6496 million enrolled in French higher education, or 219 700 students more than in 2013 according to a briefing note from the Department of Education. Building on the end of staffing projections and the prolongation of the trends of the graduates continuation rates in higher education, this report makes several assumptions for 2023.
According to the Ministry of Education, the period of 2013 to 2023 would see a sharp increase in the rate for graduates of all series, whether general (+ 28 500) or technology (+ 7 600). The most prolific years are 2017, 2018 and 2023. In fact, because of population growth related to "boom" of births in the 2000s, the number of students will increase significantly. Regarding professional graduates, they will be more between 2013 and 2023 (+ 22.4%) due in particular to the reform undertaken in 2009.
29,900 additional entries for the four graduate courses
In 2023, 14,300 more students go to university (excluding IUT). An increase mainly due to demographic growth and on maintaining levels close to those observed in 2013-2014 rates continued general baccalauréat university. For integration into the IUT, it would increase by 3.5% (in 1800), boosted by the growth of technology graduates that are priorities for these facilities even if the general graduates are not attracted to it. Preparatory classes should continue to reap students because of their attractiveness. The last ten years the flow of students of these courses had greatly increased. Regarding the STS, enrollment would be sharply higher (over 18,000). In general, four channels would record an effective increase of 29 900 students.
The University: a training to be increasingly courted
More than 125 500 students more will join the university (excluding IUT) until 2023. What further increase the difficulty to enter these institutions. This dynamism also promote the number of PhD inputs will increase at the same time. The numbers are growing in STAPS but down in law and economics.
